Healthier spaces. Healthier people.
Attendance Counts. Absenteeism is Serious. Keep Your School Safe and Healthy
Keeping schools safe and healthy requires all of us to move forward together using recommended best practices.
Frequent disinfection
From the CDC we learn that frequent disinfection of surfaces and objects touched by multiple people is important.
Disinfect daily
Surfaces frequently touched by multiple people, such as door handles, desks, phones, light switches, and faucets, should be cleaned and disinfected daily. More frequent cleaning and disinfection may be required based on level of use.
Increased speed and ease of use while reducing labor and chemical costs
EMist commercial disinfectant application sprayers decrease labor and chemical costs. With schools requiring more frequent cleaning and disinfecting, the speed at which routine jobs can be accomplished is a priority.
Improved disinfectant application
The pandemic has forever changed the way custodial staff will clean and disinfect going forward. Now is the time to update to modern technologies that will help disinfect better and faster. Given the need to disinfect large spaces more frequently, disinfecting surfaces with advanced electrostatic disinfectant sprayers, as opposed to conventional spraying methods, provides significant advantages. Unlike conventional spraying methods, and per the EPA, “electrostatic sprayers apply a positive charge to liquid disinfectants as they pass through the nozzle. The positively charged disinfectant is attracted to negatively charged surfaces, which allows for efficient coating of hard nonporous surfaces.” Avoid sprayers that provide a negative charge.
Cordless vs. corded
A corded electrostatic sprayer restricts mobility, is tethered to a wall, and creates a tripping hazard. Alternatively, a cordless electrostatic sprayer offers greater flexibility and portability. When spraying big projects, campuses multi-story buildings, or tight spaces, a cordless sprayer allows you to maneuver and move about freely without the hazard of tripping or tangling a cord. Portability is a clear advantage for any user that needs to move about frequently and efficiently.

TruElectrostatics™
Six Reasons Why Schools Choose EMist:
1. TruTechnology: EPIX Charge Detect Technology
The electrostatic sprayer continuously detects the polarity of the user and the equipment and adjusts automatically so that grounding is never an issue. The discharged droplets wrap around surfaces. This wraparound effect creates an even, consistent and comprehensive coverage of chemical, reduces chemical use, and provides superior results.
2. TruConfidence: Patented. Proven. Trusted.
When you’re dealing with deadly pathogens, you want to make sure that the company you’re buying equipment from is reputable, experienced, and trusted. EMist systems are patented, used during the 2014 Ebola crisis, and developed by electrostatic industry veteran Mike Sides, who frequently works with the DOD, Naval Entomology Center of Excellence, USDA, and WHO.
3. TruCharge: Best Performance
Electrostatic sprayer polarity matters. Most environmental surfaces have a negative or neutral charge (the earth itself is negative). Per the EPA, electrostatic sprayers should impart a positive charge so that the positively charged disinfectant droplets are attracted to targeted negative or neutral surfaces. Positively charged droplets increase droplet adhesion and wrap reducing chemical and labor costs.
4. TruDesign: Safer Operation
When spraying big areas, big buildings, or tight spaces, a cordless sprayer allows you to maneuver and move about freely. EMist sprayers are ergonomic, lightweight, and cordless. That means you can take the sprayer to where the work needs to be done rather than relying on wall outlets at the work site. Portability is a clear advantage for any user who needs to go where the work is to get the job done right.
5. TruAssurance: User Safety
Per the EPA, median droplet size should be greater than 40 microns. Droplets must be large enough to resist evaporation and drift but small enough that the droplets can change their trajectory when it comes close to a target. Most sprayers produce droplets of < 40 microns making them highly drift prone and increasing user inhalation concerns. EMist droplet size is 76 microns.
6. TruCost: Lower Total Cost of Ownership
Based on the need to disinfect large areas, manual application of disinfectants is a thing of the past. Electrostatic application is the new normal. Customers who use our systems typically see 25% to 45% labor savings and 35% to 50% chemical savings. Competitively priced, advanced and patented electrostatic technology, and proven performance provide an overall lower total cost of ownership.

Education Industry
“With the EMist® system, we can disinfect a room in about two minutes and the entire campus within two hours.”
-Andrea Vela, SAISD custodial supervisor
Schools: routine cleaning and disinfecting
Follow your school’s standard procedures for routine cleaning and disinfecting. Typically, this means daily sanitizing surfaces and objects that are touched often, such as desks, countertops, doorknobs, computer keyboards, hands-on learning items, faucet handles, phones, and toys. Some schools may also require daily disinfecting these items. Standard procedures often call for disinfecting specific areas of the school, like bathrooms.
It is critical that all administrators:
Maintain healthy environments (e.g., cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces).
Cleaning and Disinfection
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces (e.g., playground equipment, door handles, sink handles, drinking fountains) within the school and on school buses at least daily or between use as much as possible. Use of shared objects (e.g., gym or physical education equipment, art supplies, toys, games) should be limited when possible, or cleaned between use.
- If transport vehicles (e.g., buses) are used by the school, drivers should practice all safety actions and protocols as indicated for other staff (e.g., hand hygiene, cloth face coverings).
- Develop a schedule for increased, routine cleaning and disinfection.
- Ensure safe and correct use and storage of cleaning and disinfection products, including storing products securely away from children. Use products that meet EPA disinfection criteria.
- Cleaning products should not be used near children, and staff should ensure that there is adequate ventilation when using these products to prevent children or themselves from inhaling toxic fumes.
Education Statistics
There are more than 10 million germs on an average desk, harboring 400 times more bacteria than an average toilet seat. Influenza (flu), rhinovirus (common cold), and norovirus (vomiting/diarrhea, stomach flu) are commonly found in schools, easily transmitted, and lead to significant loss of school funding.
Athletics
According to the CDC, disinfecting athletic facilities is a critical step in preventing the spread of infectious and potentially deadly germs like MRSA.

TruElectrostatic for TruDisinfection™.
Our EMist® system applies disinfectant solutions with its patented technology to surfaces using electrostatic induction charging. The liquid droplets are positively charged by the spray system which is then driven to the surface target area in a consistent manner allowing for comprehensive uniform coverage. Simply put, our technology applies more evenly, sticks to surfaces like a magnet, and reduces waste drastically.
